Who Is Fossil Dude?
I am.
I was born in Santa Barbara, California, but my lifelong fascination with fossils truly took shape after my family moved to Osage County, Oklahoma. I began collecting rocks and fossils when I was barely old enough to walk, and by age 12, it had become a serious pursuit.
I spent countless days exploring creek beds, hillsides, fields, and areas near the Arkansas River, searching for ancient marine fossils, fossilized wood, unusual egg-shaped specimens, and massive sections of prehistoric plant material.
Oklahoma Field Days
The oldest stories on Earth were never written.
Oklahoma was the world I had available to explore, so I searched every part of it I could. Those long days in the field created a lifelong passion for discovering pieces of Earth's ancient history.
Some specimens were nearly the size of a person's leg and covered in distinctive diamond-shaped patterns, likely remains of Lepidodendron, the ancient scale trees that once grew in prehistoric forests.
I also found specimens so unusual that I often had no way to identify them at the time. That uncertainty became part of the pull: every creek bed, hillside, and field seemed to hold another question from an ancient world.
Meteorites
From prehistoric seas to distant worlds.
Jurassic Park helped fuel that imagination, but my greatest personal inspiration was Robert A. Haag, the original Meteorite Man.
In 2005, I ordered his Field Guide of Meteorites and had the opportunity to speak with him by phone. He personally signed the book for me, and I still own it today. His adventures inspired my lifelong interest in meteorites and helped plant the dream of becoming Fossil Dude.
I have considered myself Fossil Dude for nearly 20 years. Today, that name represents a lifetime of collecting, exploring, and sharing fossils, shark teeth, meteorites, minerals, fossil reproductions, apparel, and distinctive natural-history pieces.
Every fossil is evidence of a world that existed before us. Every meteorite is a piece of a world beyond our own.
